Use the calculator
The calculator applies our sizing method: 1 unit per 50 guests for every 4 hours, plus 1 per 5 units with alcohol, plus 5% accessible units, plus 1 hand washing station per 4 units with food. For crews it shows the OSHA minimum and our weekly-service recommendation side by side.
Assumptions behind the numbers
- Guest method: 1 unit per 50 guests per 4 hours. Longer events scale up (6 hours = 1.5×, 8 hours = 2×).
- Alcohol: add 1 unit for every 5 units, rounded up, because guests use restrooms more often.
- Accessibility: at least 1 accessible unit, and 5% of each cluster (2010 ADA Standards 213.2).
- Food: add 1 hand washing station per 4 units, minimum 1.
- Crews: OSHA 1926.51 Table D-1 for the legal minimum; 1 unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week for our recommendation.

How many porta potties for a wedding?
A wedding with a bar needs about 1 unit per 40 guests over 5 to 6 hours. A 150-guest wedding needs 4 to 5 flushing units or one 3-stall restroom trailer. Worked example: 150 guests for 5 hours gives 4 units; a bar adds 1, for 5 total.
How many porta potties for a construction crew?
A construction crew needs at least 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers under OSHA 1926.51 Table D-1. With weekly service, plan 1 unit per 10 workers on a 40-hour week. A 25-person crew needs 3 units with weekly service, or 2 units with twice-weekly service.
| Crew size (40-hr week) | Weekly service | Twice-weekly service |

| 1–10 | 1 | 1 |

Questions people ask before they book
Is one porta potty enough for 50 people?
One porta potty is enough for 50 people over about 4 hours without alcohol. Past 4 hours, or with beer and wine, add a second unit so the line stays short.
Should I get two so there are no lines?
Two units cut wait times sharply at peak moments, like right after dinner or a ceremony. For 75 or more guests, two units are the better plan.
How many hand washing stations do I need?
Plan 1 hand washing station per 4 porta potties when food is served, and at least 1 for any food event. Festivals add 1 per food area.
How many for a 500-person festival?
A 500-person festival running 9 hours needs about 28 units with beer sales, including 2 accessible units, plus 7 hand washing stations. Spread them in 2 or 3 clusters.
